Culzean Engraving can offer engraving and etching courses to individuals of all ages who wish to taste the craft of engraving.

Master Engraver Ron Cooper, who is now in his retirement, will introduce you to the skills and practices of hand engraving in various metals and glass.

Ron is a 2nd generation Master Engraver with additional textile and print businesses to his name. In 1960 working out of Dearden Street in the Yorkshire town of Osset, Ronald moved 13 families to Scotland and created Europe's largest Whiskey label company producing foil labels for Glenfiddich, Johnny Walker and Ballantines to name a few.

Did you know, the first Chivers Regal box was hand engraved in 3 dimensions by Ron and is still used to this day.

There are very few, if any, hand engravers with Rons experience and expertise. We are priveliged to have him share his techniques and knowledge with us for this course.

Set in the pristine surroundings of the Dordogne region of France, Ron offers two or three day courses where students will learn many skills.

The idea is to relax, be creative and simply enjoy yourself. Students will complete a copper practice plate and produce two engraved/etched practical items during the course which is guaranteed to leave a lasting impression.

The Dordogne region also has many other attractions that you may wish to persue during your visit with over 150 prehistoric sites along the Vezere River alone. The best known site is, of course Lascaux II, which although a reproduction will still give you goosebumps. Others include Font-de-Gaume and Combarelles in Les Eyzies (Chromatic Paintings); Rouffignac and Bara-Bahau (Engravings).
